Our Story begins - 33 years ago in Bangkok
In the beginning ...
The German Beer House pub and restaurant, first opened its doors back in 1986.
Originally, we were situated in an open-air garden location in Sukhumvit Soi 23 where we were famous for our Friday evening whole roast pig, cooked on a hand turned spit at the entrance to the restaurant.
... the bit in the middle ...
In 2003, due to redevelopment in Soi 23, we moved to a new location on Sukhumvit Soi 11, which at that time was relatively undeveloped. We also took the opportunity to rename the restaurant as The Old German Beerhouse. From our new location in Soi 11, we continued to serve the community of locals, expats and tourists whilst further cementing our position as a local institution and the “go to” place for great quality German food.
... and then there were two!
In 2018, we temporarily closed our doors in Soi 11 for renovation but took the opportunity to open The Old German Beerhouse on 13 in Sukhumvit Soi 13, where we continue the tradition of whole spit roasted pork every Friday evening.
In August 2019, the newly renovated Old German Beerhouse on 11 once again opened its doors at the same Soi 11 site.
We open for breakfast at 8.00 am and serve throughout the day until 2.00 am the following morning. Twice daily Happy Hours are from 4.00pm till 7.00 pm and then again at 10 pm until we close.
Our very friendly and knowledgeable servers are always on hand to assist with your menu selections, combining celebrated Thai-German hospitality and of course, the famous Thai smile. All are English-speaking.
In both locations, we show all the major sporting events on commercial quality LED TV’s, so you can be assured of comfortably enjoying your favourite sporting event. Normally we show English Premier league and Bundesliga (with German commentary) football and Formula 1 motor racing, as well as other major sporting events as requested.
If sport is not your thing, relax with some friends and maybe meet some new ones. Choose your drink from our wide selection of beers – Paulaner and Krombacher imported from Germany, or locally brewed options (Singha, Chang, Heineken, Carlsberg) – spirits, wines and non-alcoholic beverages. Hungry? Browse the extensive food menu, which includes German and international favourites as well as a wide range of Thai dishes. If you are having trouble choosing, feel free to seek advice from one of our knowledgeable and attractive staff, who will be only too pleased to assist you.
Should you wish to enjoy an after-dinner cigarette please go ahead; our premises enjoy a comfortable open-air setting. For those customers who prefer not to smoke, we also have a non-smoking air-conditioned area where you can enjoy your food and drinks, smoke-free.
Whether you are on a family outing, business meeting or just “chilling” with friends, we look forward to welcoming you and making your visit a memorable one.
